Our Theatre Voice: "Directed with empathy and grace by Cherissa Richards..."
Our Theatre Voice: "By the end of the play, when McFarlane breaks the fourth wall to address the audience one more time, I’m moved to the point that I can’t speak for a few minutes after the curtain call. Even the audience didn’t clap as the lights dimmed at the end of the play because McFarlane’s words hit right at the heart. The message of loneliness and friendship resonates loudly in Primary Trust. That alone shows the power of theatre and what it can accomplish when it is done well. Primary Trust remains directed, performed and done extremely well. That’s the reason to see it."
front mezz junkies: "There is something quietly miraculous about Primary Trust at the Grand Theatre, as it strolls in with such simplicity and care. It’s a production that unfolds with tenderness, humour, and an unshakeable belief in theatre’s most elemental power: the fascinating art of storytelling. It carries with it an honesty and insight, giving the whole production the astute ability to tell a deeply felt story with openness and clarity."
front mezz junkies: "...this staging of Eboni Booth’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play feels both intimate and emotionally expansive, etched with the impulse to understand a person’s lifelong loneliness rather than judge it."
front mezz junkies: "...Cherissa Richards' thoughtful direction..."
front mezz junkies: "Primary Trust at the Grand Theatre feels like more than just a successful production. It feels like an invitation to engage and care about another human being, even if he isn’t exactly remarkable from first glance."
